Diving & Snorkeling: There are some excellent diving and
snorkeling opportunities around Koh Chang. Diving can be done year
round but the best time to dive is between October and the end of May.
Swimming: Generally it is fine to swim off all of Koh Chang's
beaches, especially in the high season, the conditions are calm and
safe. Basically, don't swim beyond your abilities and if the sea looks
dangerous, stay out of it.
Boat Trips: Various boat trips are available around the
islands. These can be used as a mean of travel between the islands or
simply go for a day trip of sightseeing or snorkeling.
Monkey School: The new Koh Chang Monkey School near White
Sands Beach features highly trained monkeys to perform stunts and tricks for
audience three times daily at 10 am., 2 pm. and 4 pm.
Shopping: A wide range of goods both souvenirs and
necessities as well as luxuries can be found in Koh Chang. Go to the
major beaches for shops selling souvenir items, including carvings, jewelry,
ethnic clothing, handicrafts and more. There are also small
supermarkets and shops on all the beaches selling a reasonable range of
foods, groceries, hardware and the like.
Walking: Some challenging and enjoyable walking are offered
in the mountainous jungle interior of the island. Several residents on
the island act as guides. It's probably worth taking a guide due to
the demanding terrain and bad paths unless you're an expert.
Wildlife: Because of the mountainous terrain of the island,
most of Koh Chang is covered with rain forest that has been largely
undisturbed. The forests of the island support a large range of
wildlife, includes 29 different species of mammal on Koh Chang, for example,
Stump-Tailed Macaque, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Javan Mongoose and Silvered
Langur. For the birdwatchers, you will be pleased by its seventy-four
bird species, include the Nightjar, Pacific Swallow, Yellow Vented Bulbul
and Oriental Pied Hornbill. Other 42 different species of amphibians
and reptiles can be also found. Snakes that inhabit Koh Chang include
the Python, Rat Snake and King Cobra while Malayan Mud Turtles, Monitor
Lizards and the ubiquitous Gecko are also found on the island, plus a
variety of very vocal frogs as Koh Chang Frog.
Elephant Trekking: You can go elephant trekking at two places
on the island, Chang Chutiman which operates economical and popular elephant
trekking to the interior of the island from Klong Prao village and Baan Kwan
Chang that offers elephant treks which takes place in an inland valley to
the North of the island.
Massage: A number of massage operators are on all the beaches
of the island. There are also several small massage shops on the road
at White Sand Beach. But if you want to take a course of traditional
Thai massage, go to a school of massage in Klong Phrao.
